Visual Communications Final

The purpose behind this piece lies in the interaction of pattern and color. The first part of completing this piece was creating the matrix. There are three layers of pattern in the above image: background, middleground, and foreground. With the overlapping patterns, more shapes are made in the overlapping spaces. There is rhythm throughout the piece because of the matrix. Balance is also present through the amount of bigger and smaller shapes evenly spread throughout the composition.

The painting uses a blend of primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. Each color seen in the painting was made using the three primary colors. The use of intensity change throughout the painting helps to contrast the colors from each other. The thick layering of paint helps to keep the painting opaque, even when up against a light source; this keeps the colors true to themselves. Harmony and balance show in this piece through the spread of colors across the composition.
